Overview

A Software Engineer II at Home Chef is a skilled and experienced software developer who is proficient in the languages and frameworks commonly used at the company. To succeed in this role, you will have a deep understanding of the codebase and can implement solutions independently. You can troubleshoot and investigate errors that arise in production and can effectively communicate with other team members and stakeholders. You will need to consider multiple perspectives, suggest alternative solutions, and anticipate the impact of their work on other areas of the business.

This position will also review the work of others, providing feedback and ensuring their own work is completed to a high standard. You will translate problems into technology solutions and anticipate the cross-functional implications of the teams work.

Responsibilities

Writing code to solve business problems and handle tickets
Utilizing Ruby on Rails framework, React/React Native, and of course vanilla Javascript and CSS. Hosting on Heroku, postgres database
Can communicate about the trade-offs of various technical approaches and solutions
Backend development, design and implementation; database (relational, NoSQL, caching), messaging and big data development, implementation and optimization
Ship reliable, scalable, efficient code
Mentoring other software engineers and pair programming; collaborating with others:
Provides insight to junior engineers to guide their programming
Influence the road map and product development of Home Chef tools
Communicates and writes code clearly while pair programming
Completes pull request reviews and providing feedback to team
Participates in sprints, IPMs, Retros, and other meetings to help with product roadmap planning
Interviewing potential software engineers:
Asking thoughtful questions to candidates
Assessing both technical ability and culture add to Home Chef
Pair programming with candidates
Providing specific, timely feedback to the Home Chef team about candidates interview performance
This position requires 0-5% travel.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, and/or other characteristics needed for this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.
At least one year of experience shipping production code
Have built and shipped at least one major feature in Ruby on Rails and/or React
Must be comfortable working with version control such as GitHub
Must be well-versed in at least one professional code editor (Atom, Sublime, VS Code, Vim, etc.)
Must be comfortable working with tools like Slack and GSuite
Must be willing to respond to on-call events when they occur.
Some advanced SQL knowledge is a plus, but not required
Experience with Heroku a plus
Experience with React Native a plus
Salary range: $100400 - $133800
