Description Position Summary:Complete physical examinations on children age 0 to 18. Perform gynecologic procedures, laboratory and radiological investigations appropriate for child abuse concerns, and other medical disorders in children. Photo documentation of child abuse evaluations. Complete competent written reports of child abuse evaluations. Demonstrate ability to work with team members and as part of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrate competent expert witness testimony in court and legal proceedings. Essential Job Functions:Must have obtained adequate training in the evaluation of child abuse prior to commencing independent examinations.Must be prepared to perform examinations on children at Klamath-Lake CARES for evaluation of possible sexual or physical abuse or neglect, in accordance with the Oregon Medical Guidelines and Klamath-Lake CARES Policies and Protocols currently in place.Must be capable of performing evaluations on children in the acute/emergency setting at Klamath-Lake CARES, Sky Lakes Medical Center, or the Sky Lakes Medical Center Emergency Department.Must be able to provide "Brief Medical Evaluations", and Drug Endangered Children Screening Examinations as per the Klamath-Lake CARES Policies and Protocols.Must be capable of ordering appropriate laboratory studies, Radiologic studies and providing treatment of disorders associated with child abuse, and the diagnosis and treatment of other disorders seen in the primary care setting, in accordance with standard of care practices.Must be able to provide the medical diagnosis of child abuse and neglect.Must provide a written report of the medical evaluation of children seen at Klamath-Lake CARES.Need to remain available to multidisciplinary partners for consultation and discussion regarding individual CARES cases.Is available for any medical legal issues and for expert witness testimony according to the requests during legal proceedings.Attends monthly examiner meetings, and participate in other training programs provided to examiners.Medical examiners must maintain competency in the delivery care for child abuse evaluations by:Independent literature readings.Attendance at state and national child abuse conferences.Marginal Job Functions:Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Lic/Reg/Cert:Oregon Family Medicine or Pediatric Medical Doctor, Nurse or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant with SANE nurse within scope of practice. Required:Credentialed to practice by Medical center; Possess current medical malpractice coverage; Strong clinical skills and judgment; and good communication skills.Preferred: Extensive knowledge base of pediatric development, physiology and the primary care of children; and Extensive understanding of the current field of child abuse and the evaluation and management of children who have experienced child sexual abuse, child physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect.Typical Physical / Mental:Must have good general health. Must be able to frequently stoop, bend, and reach. Must be able to sit for long periods, with occasional walking and standing, and be able to lift 50 pounds. Must demonstrate calmness and ability to prioritize tasks under busy and stressful conditions. Must possess the visual, auditory, and fine motor skills needed for office procedures and general medical practice.
