Job Description:

Summary: The Skills Builder, acting as a member of a multi-disciplinary school-based treatment team, provides supportive services which promote the client's abilities to better benefit from mental health treatment. Skills Builders are assigned to work with outpatient clients and their families. They teach specific skills, such as anger management skills, social skills, self-regulation skills, etc. as identified in the service plan. All KBBH employees are expected to carry out agency policies and procedures consistent with federal, state, and local regulations and accreditation standards. Qualifications/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely as a member with other team members and community partners.
  • Work with individual clients and their families to address barriers to child and family, as requested by the child and family.
  • Provide individualized skills-building to client. This may include self-regulation skills, anger management skills, social skills, strategies to promote success in school, stress management/reduction, etc.
  • Provide adults involved in the child's life (i.e. parents, guardians, teachers, child care providers, etc.) with training and education regarding the client's skill development and strategies for supporting newly acquired skills.
  • Assist family in implementing crisis plans as needed.
  • Assist the family in identifying respite options as needed.
  • May assist clients and families in accessing local or regional resources (i.e. housing, job opportunities, medications, prescriptions, food, insurance, etc.).
  • May assist with transportation of client or family members as indicated to support meeting goals identified in treatment plan or service coordination plan.
  • May attend meetings planned by community partners for care coordination.
  • Must have a valid Oregon driver's license and meet agency standards for vehicle safety and insurance coverage.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, Child and Family Team meetings, tratrainingnd any other meetings assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, family members, agency co-workers, and community partners.
  • Consistently demonstrates professional work habits.
  • All paperwork is completed professionally and within the given timelines.
  • Is consistently attempting to enhance the level of job knowledge through outside readings, workshops, in-services, and course work where applicable.
  • Upholds all ethical policies to which the agency subscribes.
  • Carries out other tasks assigned by the supervisor. Productivity: Productivity will be measured through billable services as follows: Skills Trainers will be responsible for billing an average of $8,000 per month during the 12-month fiscal year. Examples of billable services are Group and individual skills training, and case management services. The above productivity will take into consideration scheduled vacation or sick/wellness days. Exceptions to this requirement must be documented in the staff Employment Letter and approved by the QMHA's supervisor and the Chief Executive Officer. Education and/or Experience: Must meet Oregon State (OARS) requirements and MHACBO certification as a "Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA)," meeting the following minimum qualifications:(a) Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field: or(b) A combination of at least three years relevant work, education, training or experience. Additionally, one must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, understand mental health assessment, treatment, and service terminology and apply each of these concepts. Implement skills development strategies, and identify, implement and coordinate the services and supports identified in an ISSP. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Oregon driver's license, insurable driving record. Personal automobile insurance is required if clients are transported, or any agency business is conducted by the employee using his/her personal vehicle. Driving is a requirement for this position. Proof of insurance must be provided to the HR department. Coverage must remain current. Must meet the requirements to become MHACBO QMHA Certified. Certification must be maintained for the length of employment. Locations: Junior High Schools in Klamath Falls and Klamath County. COVID-19 considerations: Masks and/or face shield is required and Covid-19 vaccination or qualification for exemptions.
