Our Communications Technician-Toll work both inside and outside and
are responsible for the cable maintenance of the AT&T
facilities.
What you'll do as an AT&T Communications Technician-Toll:
Work with various testing equipment, measuring devices, meters and
tools in adjusting, wiring, repairing and maintaining various
equipment and systems.
Maintain rectifiers, batteries and related power equipment.
Responsible for fiber cable locating.
Drive a company vehicle.
Handle emergency call-outs at all times.
Respond to all customer trouble calls and inquires.
Work in confined spaces including manholes and trenches.
Work on ladders, platforms and other aerial devices.
Work outside in all weather conditions.

GENERAL DUTIES
Job duties may vary among departments and/or assignments.

Duties generally include, but are not limited to the following:
Working with various testing equipment, measuring devices, meters
and tools in adjusting, wiring, repairing and
maintaining various equipment and systems.
Testing, diagnosing, analyzing, and locating troubles.
Installing, repairing, and adjusting equipment and facilities.
Performing routine maintenance including inspecting, cleaning,
testing and lubricating.
Keeping detailed records of work activities.
Interpreting AT&T-C practices, diagrams, specifications,
drawings, and service orders.
Using soldering iron and mechanical connecting tools to terminate
or connect wires.
Maintaining rectifiers, batteries, and related power equipment.
Preparing inputs, processing outputs and operating various computer
systems. Evaluation/exam
Answering telephones, taking messages, referring calls, and
directing trouble investigations with other AT&T-C offices,
or
other telephone companies, and/or clients.
Driving a company vehicle.
In "outside plant" assignments, the following additional functions
may be performed:
Identifying wires from test signals.
Splicing wires in various types of cable.
Locating and repairing leaks in pressurized cable.
Climbing ladders and poles.
In "radio maintenance" assignments, the following additional
functional may be performed:
Maintaining and repairing microwave radio and related
equipment.
Maintaining, testing, and operating power equipment, emergency
engines, and various building support equipment.
Maintaining buildings and grounds at unattended sites.
In "special services" assignments, the following additional
functions may be performed:
Handling customer contacts, accepting trouble reports, testing
circuits, analyzing results and directing trouble
investigations.
Tracking progress of service starts and rearrangements.
In "switching assignments", the following additional functions may
be performed:
Operating computers and other mechanized systems on a daily
basis.
Preparing inputs, analyzing outputs, maintaining and repairing
various electronic and electromechanical switching
systems.
Cable Station employees are required to obtain and maintain a U.S.
Government secret level security clearance as a condition of
employment.
In "cable station assignments", the following additional functions
may be performed:
--- Power Safety operations and coordination between landing
stations as well as with cable repair vessel.
--- Storm duty, starting before local conditions deteriorate, and
can extend for the duration of the severe weather event.
--- Provide Tier 1 field technical support, operations and
maintenance at Cable Stations, as required.
--- Outside plant inspections, cable patrols, cable locating and
marking, repair of shore-end and land cable links.
--- Oversight and access control roles to enforce contractor and
visitor compliance of corporate safety and security
guidelines following processes per Public Sector Solutions,
EH&S, Ask Yourself, Supplier Awareness, Product
Management, and specific contracts.
--- Interfaces and coordinates provisioning, maintenance and
emergency repair work with other companies in different
countries, work centers, and repair vessels at shallow water and
high seas.

--- Be able to obtain, maintain, and utilize company procurement
tools, including company credit cards, as instructed.
--- Utilize personal protective equipment, tools and safety
materials per company best practices and local business needs.
--- Manually start and stop diesel emergency generators, read and
interpret all meters on control panel, and perform basic
repair and maintenance. Switch office loads from one diesel to
another at the Switchgear panel, read and interpret all
meters on the Switchgear and Generators. Manually operate all AC
circuit breakers. Understand and follow all safety
procedures involved in AC power.
--- Have a basic understanding of the Air Condition System. Work on
the electrical and mechanical portions of the system
and to perform maintenance and basic repairs. Be able to read and
interpret meter readings; be able to transfer from one
AC system to another.
--- Provide verbal and written activity reports, completion
reports, maintenance reports, or progress reports for corporate
compliance and/or Tier support and/or foreign partners for review
or trouble analyses, as required.
--- Collaborate and communicate liberally, openly and
professionally with cable station personnel, Technical Support,
Engineering, Provisioning, Maintenance, Supply Chain, work centers,
and other business units per established
processes.
--- Observe established processes and best practices. Seek
professional advice from cable station peers, management,
and associated technical support personnel when in doubt. In
situations where a security clearance is required and the
employee has not yet obtained it, the employee will work under the
oversight and escort of more experienced cable
station personnel that already have a security clearance, per
company instructions.
In addition to STRONG communication and technical skills, our
Communications Technician-Toll must have the following:
---Valid state driver's license
---Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs
---Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings,
weekends, holidays and emergency callouts
---AT&T will consider for employment qualified applicants in a
manner consistent with the requirements of federal, state and local
laws
---Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors
---Ability to complete on-the-job and/or classroom training as
required
