Summary Performs full scope of clerical and para-professional responsibilities in the operation of the Adult Services Department of the Library. Assists Supervising Librarian with collection development with a focus in digital collections. Implements special projects involving patron services and community outreach.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned. Keeps abreast of library policies and procedures, computer documentation, professional literature; makes suggestions and passes on public input to supervisors.Suggests procedural and program changes for the Adult Services Department of the Library (including the branches) through participation in workshops and direct consultation with the Adult Services Supervisor.Serves as a liaison to community organizations. Develops and sustains viable community partnerships.Assists Supervising Librarian in presenting and preparing programs; assists with community outreach programs.Assists Supervising Librarian in selecting new and replacement materials and assigning status of materials in acquisitions/cataloging systems.Directly assists patrons (in person or by phone) in locating materials and information. Assists patrons with library needs, provides quick reference, detailed research and reader's advisory assistance, and explains policies and procedures.Provides assistance to impaired patrons by locating material suitable to their needs.Selects titles for the digital collections and transmit invoices to the Supervising Librarian for approval. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and/or ExperienceRequires Associate's Degree or equivalent and one year of Library work experience, or three years of Library work experience in progressively responsible positions. Experience in all aspects of public library operations preferred, including reference services and service to children and teens. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software, Internet browsers, and an Integrated Library System (ILS) software product such as Polaris. Verbal proficiency in Spanish preferred.Training PeriodOver 3 months up to and including 6 months (excluding the orientation time required of a fully qualified worker to become accustomed to the special conditions of any new job).Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
