The City of Medford has several part-time/seasonal positions for Traffic Counters.

The City of Medford Traffic Engineering Division is looking for several attentive and dependable to join our team. The Traffic Data Collector's primary duty is to observe traffic at intersections while counting vehicle turning movements using a hand-held computerized counting board.Employees will be required to drive their personal vehicle to/from/between multiple work locations. This position may be required to work variable shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have high school diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age by date of hire
  • Work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to follow oral, written, and drawn instructions
  • Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with others
  • Relate to the general public in a positive manner
  • Has ability to primarily work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Requires possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire
  • Requires completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City

There are two schedule options:

  • Tuesday - Thursday 6:00 am to 12:30 pm
  • Tuesday - Thursday 12:30 pm to 7:00 pm

This position is open until filled

Typical Job Duties

These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. Essential duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area. This position:

  • Monitor traffic and manually tally vehicle movements using traffic counting device.
  • Performing testing to ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Working primarily outdoors in Right of Way areas.
  • Assisting engineering staff in a variety of daily tasks or special projects.
  • Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrate good written communication skills and perform detailed note taking.
  • Must have the ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace.
  • Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Requires possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
  • Requires completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.

Ability to:

  • Work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to follow oral, written, and drawn instructions.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with others.
  • Relate to the general public in a positive manner.
