Job Description:

This position is responsible for assisting the Wig Masters with the creation and execution of wigs, hair styles and specialty makeup for productions as assigned by the Wig and Hair Supervisor and designed by the Costume Designer. This position also assists with the day to day operation of the Wig and Hair Department as assigned. Participates in the running of productions and maintenance of wigs for one or more productions during the performance season. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): -Assists assigned Wig Master with all aspects of the show build process including but not limited to; prioritizing and organizing large casted shows, attending fittings as needed, recording and organizing fitting information, building & styling and executing specialty makeup for assigned OSF productions -Attends all technical and dress rehearsals of assigned shows, takes notes and completes alterations. -Performs work in a manner that supports OSFs Mission, Values & Vision and it commitment to diversity and inclusion. - Sets up, prioritizes and delegates ventilating projects to wig crew members. -Present for all technical and dress rehearsals of assigned shows, takes notes and assists with alterations. -Participates in rotation of running productions & maintenance of wigs as assigned by Wig and Hair Room Supervisor. -Executes wig/hair changes, including some quick changes as established through work with Wardrobe staff and Stage Management. There might be some assistance to wardrobe costume changes as needed but on a limited basis. -Has oversight and maintains integrity of shows throughout the season. -Work load may include more complex and labor-intensive projects. -Assists with the creation of run sheets for assigned show tracks as needed -Participates in the upkeep and cleanliness of the wig rooms, stock and common wig department areas. -Recommends, supplies, tools and materials for general seasonal and show specific inventory. Duties may include: fulfilling order requests, monitoring pantry inventory and dressing room kits and; communicates with Stage Managers regarding Run Crew and actor issues related to wigs, and intercedes in such issues when appropriate. Education: Three years of experience as an Assistant Wig Master and/or Wig and Hair Technician or a combined three years of theatrical wig making/ run crew professional experience and a BA, MFA, or certification from accredited programs specializing in theatrical wig making. Work Experience: Excellent organization skills including but not limited to: show bibles, show maintenance scheduling, strike scheduling/ process and prioritizing work tasks for large casted shows. Qualifications/skills: Must have 3+ years of moderate to advanced knowledge of theatrical wig making and hair styling. Must have proficient knowledge and experience in the following areas: ventilation, wig cap construction (closures (tops), fronts, fully hand tied), facial hair construction, working with a diverse range of hair textures, styling actors natural hair. Knowledge of the history of both mens and womens contemporary and period hair styles. Preferred knowledge of diverse makeup types: Stage, Beauty, Fantasy, Period, Special Effects, Prosthetics etc. Excellent organization, communication, problem solving and building skills. Must have the abilities to take direction and multi-task while prioritizing assignments and work schedule. Possesses a high level of time management, work flow management, interpersonal and collaborative communications skills. Maintains a professional attitude when working in a fast paced environment.
