Education and Work Experience: - Education: High School Diploma Preferred - Work/Professional Experience: a. Experience working with youth preferred Scope of Position: The After School Program/Summer Day Camp Support Staff & HOPE House Childcare Worker will provide assistance and support to all After School Program/Summer Day Camp activities of the Medford Citadel Corps and provide childcare at given times at The Salvation Army's HOPE House Transitional Housing. Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English. Must be committed to The Salvation Army's Christian mission and ministry. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: - Must be familiar with The Salvation Army's mission and local ministries - Knowledgeable of and able to use Windows computer systems and Microsoft Office programs is mandatory - Must be able to manage a variety of projects at any given time - Must be able to work in an environment that is busy and must be able to work in spite of interruptions and surrounding activities - The ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule. The employee must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize and coordinate the functions of the position - The ability to present oneself in a professional and appropriate manner along with the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information and documentation - The ability to train in trainings of Protect the Mission - The ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a positive manner and the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances - The employee works with sensitive and confidential material. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds will occur. Must have the ability to: sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead, and to lift up to 40 lbs. Attendance is an essential function of this position Regular hours are 27 weekly hours Essential Duties and Responsibilities: It is the responsibility of each employee of The Salvation Army, Medford Citadel Corps, to reach out to people, without discrimination, in the name of The Salvation Army; helping to build whole people- spirit, soul and body- in the name of The Salvation Army. - General Office Duties: a. Receive and return calls regarding Corps Programs including but not limited to; Afterschool program, Summer Day Camp b. Complete all filing of Corps Program records c. Create Physical files as needed d. Create electronic files as needed e. Prepare general correspondence as requested, including form letters f. Perform light clerical duties including letter writing, filing, materials and general office work - Statistics: a. Collect and deliver monthly statistical Information for Afterschool Program/ Summer Day Camp b. Collect and deliver monthly statistical Information for HOPE House Childcare - VBS, After School Program & Summer Day Camp: a. Provide care for children, ensuring that children are safely supervised and that all Protecting the Mission Policies are followed. Enforce Protect the Mission guidelines b. Assist in the preparation of lesson plans with an appropriate balance of teacher directed and independent activities c. Assure that materials and equipment are available to support the planned activities (planning around what we already have on hand and keeping spending to a minimum) d. Assist in the planning, Coordination, and execution of weekly field trips for the Summer Day Camp e. Supervise children at all times and during all activities f. Assist in creating a physical space that provides a safe and stimulating environment g. Organize classroom space in a functional, clean, neat and attractive way that encourages learning and that encourages children to use materials as independently as appropriate h. Display children's work in a way that is attractive and informative to visitors and promotes children's' self-esteem i. Alert the After School Program Coordinator & the Corps Officers to any concerns about cleanliness, needed repairs, or safety j. Participate with children in all movement activity in the program such as moving, jumping, walking, running, singing, dancing, and other enthusiastic physical activity k. Enforce safety rules, intervene when children may injure themselves or others, and promptly alert the Corps Assistant & the Corps Officers to any injury involving children, staff or volunteers l. Practice infection control principles (proper hand-washing, cleaning and sanitizing toys, tables, etc.) m. Have Food Handlers certificate and assist with planning and preparation of nutritious and appropriate snacks and meals n. Be an active participant in the programs moving freely; jump, walk, run and participate in all movement activity with children in the program such as singing, dancing, and other enthusiastic physical activity o. Direct the setup for arts and crafts time as well as cleanup p. Initiate and participate in singing fun children songs and free time play q. Supervise free time play r. Supervise day campers both at The Salvation Army facility and during field trips s. Work in conjunction with the After School Program Coordinator & the Corps Officers in planning, organizing, and executing outreach - HOPE House Childcare: a. Work under the supervision of the Corps Officer and Hope House Operations Manager to plan, organize, and direct the programs b. Provide supervision, guidance, and caring for children, ensuring that children are safely supervised and that all Protect the Mission Policies are followed. Enforce Protect the Mission guidelines c. Assure that materials and equipment are available to support the planned activities (planning around what we already have on hand and keeping spending to a minimum) d. Supervise children at all times and during all activities e. Assist the HOPE House staff in creating a physical space that provides a safe and stimulating environment f. Organize space in a functional, clean, neat and attractive way that encourages learning and that encourages children to use materials as independently as appropriate g. Display children's work in a way that is attractive and informative to visitors and promotes children's self-esteem h. Alert Corps Officers to any concerns about cleanliness, needed repairs, or safety i. Participate with children in all movement activity in the program such as moving, jumping, walking, running, singing, dancing, and other enthusiastic physical activity j. Enforce safety rules, intervene when children may injure themselves or others, and promptly alert the After School Program Coordinator & the Corps Officers to any injury involving children, staff or volunteers k. Assist with Christmas Programs as directed Physical Requirements: a. Must have the ability to: Be an active participant in the programs: moving freely, jump, walk, run and participate in all movement activity with children in the program such as singing, dancing, and other enthusiastic physical activity b. Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead and lift up to 50 lbs. (equipment & small children) Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position Working Conditions: Must be able to work in an environment that is fast paced, deals with various units (within The Medford Citadel Corps) and must be able to multi-task and work in spite of interruptions and surrounding activities Confidentiality: Requires daily involvement in personal and professionally sensitive matters which require maintaining absolute confidentiality. Works with sensitive and confidential material Chemicals (owing to Janitorial Duties): Exposure to caustic and non-caustic chemicals and materials Personal protective equipment must be worn because of the presence of irritant and toxic chemicals, substances, and physical hazards common to this type of work Communicable Diseases: Possible exposure to communicable diseases Confidentiality: Requires daily involvement in personal and professionally sensitive matters which require maintaining absolute confidentiality Cooking: May operate commercial grills and ovens, blenders and other kitchen-related tools Criminal History Check: Will require a criminal history information check. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered Environmental Conditions: Work outdoors occasionally, sometimes in inclement weather. Frequently exposed to any and all conditions found in workplaces throughout the state which include, but are not limited to, standing for long periods of time, walking over uneven surfaces, climbing, use of ladders and stairs, occasional out-of-region and overnight travel, lifting up to 100 lbs. may be required, work in all kinds of weather- daily. Operate in work areas under conditions of moderate noise levels and close proximity; nature of work sometimes requires long periods of sitting and exposure to conditions which may cause eyestrain Environmental conditions- Office: Works on many projects at once in an open office environment with many interruptions and noise from ringing telephones, printers, copiers, and walk-in traffic. Works in an office environment with frequent interruptions, multiple deadlines, and competing priorities. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds. Work performed in office environment with demanding timelines, shifting priorities and constant interruptions in work routine. Constant pressure to meet deadlines. Work environment includes managing projects with conflicting requirements and tight deadlines. Involves frequent interruptions due to limited privacy. Requires concentration while working on highly technical information with constant interruptions; requires sitting for long periods of time; requires input/retrieval of information and data from the computer system. Assignments are often required to be completed on short timelines and with strict deadlines. Organizes projects and sets priorities Mental Functions: Calculating, cataloging, inspecting, analyzing, planning, comprehend, cooperating with others, etc. Sitting, Standing, Walking, Bending, Stooping, and Twisting: May require ability to lift and carry small children/infants up to 50 lbs.
