Salary: Typical starting range is $17.33 to $21.67 (based on relevant experience)

Position Summary

The Data Integrity Specialist is responsible for reviewing and correcting documentation integrity problems with e-PHI in various systems and identifying and consolidating duplicate patient records within the master patient index. Responsibilities include providing ongoing education and feedback to patient registration areas regarding the generation of duplicate records; performing a variety of monitoring functions related to the processing of medical records including verifying completeness of medical records in various hospital systems; and monitoring, analyzing and resolving errors in various system error queues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

-- Associate Degree in health information, informatics, computer sciences or other related field, or the equivalent in education and experience is required

-- Bachelors degree in health information, informatics, computer sciences, or other related field, preferred

-- Related courses in medical office practices, preferred

Experience

-- At least 3 years of experience in Health Information Services with increasing responsibility for data integrity analysis, or database maintenance and support of a master patient index, and documentation compliance activities is required

-- Experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferred

-- Experience in transcribing and editing dictated reports, preferred

Licensure/Certifications

-- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), preferred

Skills and Abilities

-- Ability to function independently, initiate change and direct activities related to the EMPI and record integrity

-- Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, Outlook and other electronic health record systems

-- Excellent communication skills

-- Ability to organize work priorities and meet specific objectives under time constraints

-- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail

-- Ability to work and communicate in a positive and cooperative manner with all members of the health care team
