Position Summary The Registered Nurse is responsible for supporting the Health Center Manager, Clinicians, and Health Care Assistants in providing direct clinical reproductive health care while adhering to Medical Standards and Guidelines, Clinical Policies and Procedures, and RN Standing Orders. RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Duties Provide ultrasound and moderate sedation care during procedural abortion clinics. Additionally, provide respectful, affirming, inclusive, patient-centered care to a wide variety of patients seeking other reproductive and sexual health services. Communicate with patients to identify specific medical problems and to answer patient questions. Serve as birth control counselor and medication prescriber and dispenser, under Standing Orders. Work with a centralized team of RNs, who assist in managing labs, diagnostics, and follow-up care. Document all care visits in EHR in a timely manner with a patient-centric focus. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contribute to the training of new staff and students, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical best practices. Ensure compliance with all organization quality assurance guidelines and pertinent government regulations including OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA. Work in partnership with the Leadership Team and Patient Services staff to ensure that the clinic offers high quality and medically appropriate family planning services. Review and sign charts to confirm compliance with Planned Parenthood protocols and medical standards. Make nursing decisions based on standing orders of the Medical Director and Planned Parenthood protocols. Consult clinicians as necessary. Accept individual and joint responsibility for clinic efforts to comply with all organizational quality assurance guidelines and pertinent government regulations. Ensure that all drugs are kept in a locked location unless a physician, APRN, or Registered Nurse, is present. Accurate documentation of beginning/end/waste counts for controlled substances and maintaining logs. Counsel patients on the use, risks, benefits and side effects of any new medications prescribed and ensure a drug information fact sheet is given to the client. Dispense new medications to patients and review and approve refill dispensing using Standing Orders. Assists/performs IV access/medication, injections, immunizations, CLIA waived laboratory tests, and phlebotomy. Participate in the training of technical skills as assigned such as phlebotomy and ultrasound. Provide client telephone consultation via Standing Orders. Assure that appropriate client follow-up occurs by scheduling return or referral appointments for clients as needed. Maintain patient medical records in good order utilizing standard language and approved abbreviations and following accepted medical standards for charting and documentation. Review patient records for accuracy/completion in the recording of the visit. Assist Health Center Manager as requested with clinic workflow and/or assessment, training, supervision of HCA staff. Participate in team meetings for system improvement, as well as problem identification and resolution. Attend staff and special meetings as scheduled or requested. Communicate openly with the clinic manager and supervisor about the status of the clinic. In cooperation with Leadership, develop recommendations for improving patient care and providing quality customer service. Provide quality customer service at all times. Demonstrate leadership in clinical skills with staff by maintaining professional and technical knowledge. Other duties as assigned. Equity and Culture Participate and engage in PPSO DEIB initiatives. Please note that as part of the screening process PPSO will verify license and certification status. Minimum Required Qualifications Current Oregon licensure as a Registered Nurse. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. ACLS certification is needed if providing moderate sedation. Preferred Qualifications Two years’ experience in women’s health care. Experience in supervision, instruction and evaluation. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred. Professional Competencies Effective verbal and written communication skills. Team and service oriented with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to remain flexible and adapt well to change. Strong decision-making skills and ability to take initiative. Ability to manage time effectively and multitask. Travel & Availability Requirements May be required to travel between health centers on an as needed basis. Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from primary health center.
